Raja Deekshithar was before
anything a man of great compassion, wisdom, knowledge, integrity and
the embodiment of unconditional love. He lived his life like a
hero in every possible way. In an exceptional and
unique way he united within his being both the East and the West.
He gave shape in this way to a whole new way of being and
becoming. He was born in the traditions of the temple of the
Dancing Shiva Nataraja in Chidambaram in the south of India. And
educated at one of India's
renowned universities. Raja spend a large part of his life
sharing his wisdom, knowledge, insights and vision with the West.
For different people he meant different things. Someone once
called him "The Light of India". For many he was an inspiration,
to others a master and teacher, for some a healer. As a
researcher he discovered the
Sphinxes of
India, the earliest stone sculpture of the
Nataraja Ananda Tandava and the Eclipse
Commemoration Pavilions. As an artist
he composed many classic and devotional songs, and made Bharata
Natyam choreographies. He was an infinite fountain of
wisdom and knowledge. His energy and laughter never ran out. We always enjoyed his wonderful cooking.
He was a great
father and loving grandfather. He lived a modern life without
ever failing or compromising the ancient tradition in which
he was born. We, his family, friends and students will miss him
deeply. His being, his dreams and ambitions, his teachings and
the life we shared with him will always be our inspiration. We
will dedicate our lives to his legacy, will walk in his
footsteps and follow the spiritual path to which he directed
us.
